If you are considering WSPR, it may be worth looking also at a program called Laserscatter which is a multitone FSK mode using very low audio tones (20-30Hz) .  See www.k3pgp.org/lflaser.htm

Stefan,

I just did a simple test:
I took 2 old LW ferrite antennas and brought them to resonance at 1.5kHz with a bunch of capacitors.
One ferrite antenna was used as TX antenna, fed by the 5W active speaker of the main PC in the shack transmitting the WSPR audio signal.
The second ferrite antenna served as RX antenna connected to the mic input of my notebook, acting as receiver in the living room (a surprised look of the XYL, but she is meanwhile used to my strange behaviour).
Solid copy in WSPR, over a distance of 15m.
OK, it's just a very loose couple transformer. But it works fine and based on the signal strength (through a couple of walls) there is more in it than 15m.
