Thanks Roelof, that is interesting....the Miami copy ties in with the timing of the E<>W OPERAcopy Graham sent me. its just before dawn here, and it is probably dawn that allows the hot electons into the D-region. The N6RYpath from Warren was prob just after sunset at the western end. It is sometimes possible to see the signal climbing after a hit at around 6dB per hour.....if you have an "imagination" like mine :-)) Alan --- On Fri, 9/3/12, Roelof Bakker <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Roelof Bakker <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: LF: Big solar flare - major geomagnetic storms to follow > To: [email protected] > Date: Friday, 9 March, 2012, 14:15 > Hello Alan, > > For further "experimental data", on 518 kHz NAVTEX only > stations from the north at a distance below 1000 km were > received last night. > Norlandet at 1374 km away, did not appear at all, where it > is a very regular guest otherwise. > > It is interesting to note that a perfect decode was received > from Miami, 7000+ km away at 04:05 UTC. > > What is also interesting is that my PERSEUS spectrum window > from 0 - 40 MHz showes depressed signals above 2 MHz. > The average level is 10 - 20 dB below normal. > > These SDR's lent themselves very well for wideband > propagation study! > > 73, > Roelof, pa0rdt > > |
