I have been active on 5 Mcs since it started some years ago and have no need for any Beacons although there is one active but I do not use it, but it sends the full callsign and has a proper licence to operate.
I can tell immediately when I switch to the band what propagation is like by listening to what is going on world wide and proceed accordingly to word DX or have a local QSO on either CW or SSB

That's  true .. but worked  nicely  on 5  megs  .. and the  plots  on  500  showed  what  could be  done with a  short  pulse and  some good  software ..

With the  extreme  qsb on LF  , most of the  long pulse beacon , oop's  sorry  CW . transmissions are lost anyway as can  be seen  by  the new  level  of - did  you  - did I - could it  -  was it  - no or  ok -   ... traffic on the  reflector ..

What  could be better  than  a system that  could  give a  real  positive ID   on, say  only  1  10 second  tx pulse ,

Maybe  should be re-named the   - Small  Green Beacon -  project as the  low   TX power  levels  will  reduce the  polar ice cap  erosion ?

Some  words  on the  idea

gad...the only thing worse than single-letter ID's is no ID at all.

This still does not address the problem of LFers who choose not to be on the reflectors as well as newcomers and casual tuners, wondering who the heck they are seeing.
