Interesting , John,
I don't think I got round to running those two, they are coded in
multipsk , but from experience 'wide' systems didn't appear to travel very
well on 500 . The systems that I listed are simple on/off change state ,
which could be modulated by simple carrier frequency switching ,
Everything this end was/is linear in the traditional sense , cheating a bit
with the Racal MA1723 and a 25 watt class -A- 24vdc driver amp for most of
the year and later, a lucky find on e-bay a Skanti 250 watt o/p pa module
from a hf/mf 8000 series marine transmitter ..

Graham,
Again, with the dangers of replying from work...<g>
You should be able to run MFSK 8 or 16 through your grinder...those are
single-tone-at-a-time systems, and have very nice FEC for this sort of
work.

Ok John,
I spent a while last year looking for modes that would go through these
'Meat grinder' transmission systems , only found , RTTY , Amtor arq/fec,
Pactor arq/fec and Hf Packet , 'hell' of course , but thats in a gray
zone .... I think the original Jason system will but with the advent of
'Bill's joined up writing, windows 'xp' it looks to of fallen over ..My
version crashes on rx/tx change over . I think it made sequential
frequency change steps, which where measured by rx software and thus
determined the character .... which on 500 would be a good system, with
no lock up time and presumably would print correctly to the point of
loosing the last set of tones ?...
Graham ..
Ps (Alberto, any chance of a recompiled 'xp' version ? )

Graham,
I think you will find , olivia runs more than one tone at any one time
and produces a 'two tone test' envelope , simple check, view the sound
card o/p on a scope ?
(Belated reply...) Yes, you are correct about Olivia -- easily confirmed
with a scope in a short on-air test. This once again teaches me not to
make quick observations while at work!
