I agree 100%, Rob.

To me items 1 and 2 are the most critical up front. A mistake
configuring free software is minor compared to a mistake buying the
wrong hardware. The latter could mean long delays before another
attempt.

Per Jay's comment, I prefer to include filters wherever they would
improve performance. Generally, receive filters are cheap and easy...
