No, an earth antenna radiates in the direction of the wire, approximately east-west...

I agree.

Best would be a stony mountain sourrounded by a small lake rivulet. For
example like here:

(Unfortunately the directivity of that earth antenna is almost
orthogonal to the RX sites of Paul, DL0AO and DK7FC :-/
Ah and BTW it would be good to have a good Restaurant near that
location, just to spend a few hours there while transmitting.
