Hi All,

Talking about & discussing kites, today there was an interesting article in my daily newspaper regarding a kite, the article is attached but quality may be a problem so I have transcribed the text below.

Cheers, Gary - G4WGT.

KITE PULLS FISH BOAT
A trawler will this week be the first to leave port pulled by a KITE. A 1000 ft rope ties the Maartje Theadora to the huge parachute-like sail. The ship will use trade winds used by vessels hundreds of years ago on its journey from Germany to South America. The kite could cut its fuel bill by a third as it takes the strain off the engine. An expert said: " It's a challenge."

Peter, you are in Kiel. This may be one of the best regions in germany for kite antennas :-) Which kite have you used for your tests? Anything better than the "Jumbo power sled 36" (or 81)?

Greetings from Heidelberg

Stefan

Hi Paul,

Tried that some 9 years ago. Did not work due to heavy detuning effects if
wind speed varied slightly. What worked sufficiently was a pyramid guying
at ~1/3 of the full length of the kite rope such that the shack was just
below the top of the pyramid.
