Yes, that is true ... but I got rid of the Vactrols a long time ago. Nearby lightning storms found them easy prey.

In the interest of full disclosure ... there are times when the cardiod pattern is not the best for EU reception. Specifically, when Tstorms get cranked up in the Gulf of Mexico and northern SA, it is not unusual for the large untuned NE/SW loop with it's figure 8 pattern to outperform the cardiod ... due to better rejection of the Tstorm noise.

...but you have that adjustable resistor that can be turned to 0 Ohm and then your antenna is a loop. Your version is even remotely adjustable, optically decoupled, if i remember correctly. So if R decreases you can turn from E > carioid > H, right?
