Hi Paul....go to a motor rewinding shop and get some of the sleeving they use 
to cover
the connections of the windings to the fly-leads.  It's available in a wide 
range of sizes
and can really take the heat, even of a propane torch for a few minutes!  You 
could
slip it over braid salvaged from coax cable and flattened.
