There appeared to be some frequency variation, either due to propagation or oscillators. I usually started the decoder a few times with slightly different frequency offsets, keeping the one which either produced the fewest errors during the initial twelve flat-phase runs, or the best-centered peak in the spectrum-of-squares.

 

The carrier signal was often strong enough that a visual message would have been readable off my TA grabber, corroborating the conclusion that EbNaut produces QRSS-3-like throughput from a QRSS-30 signal strength. On the other hand, around 23 UT the carrier was well visible on my wideband display - at 13.8 dB Eb/N0, the indicated Shannon capacity was 11615.8 bits/hour, equivalent to reading 34 letters-per-minute CW from a QRSS-3 signal.
