Hi Paul,
 
thanks for that! But I'm afraid that my "faster" Notebook (2x 2.66 GHz, 8 GByte) is just not up to the task. Successfully managed to start v0.3f with 4k19A and 131 characters, and it produced the rawsyms file with 3280 symbols. Then physical ram fills up quickly and the harddrive is being accessed continuously, with no more useful response after that.

I just made a 0.3f with increased limit.  It'll 

probably do something bad with the user interface 

but the logfile might cope.
