Hi
My ten cents worth....
If you haven't looked at it before try
http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~culler/AIIT/papers/radio/Sokal%20AACD5-poweramps.pdf.
Plough through the math and then forget look at the final section on
empirically setting the device in class E. This work sheet that has saved me
from destroying endless devices. A smooth transition of the Drain volts is
important by accurately setting the shunt capacity C1..
Make sure you do not over drive the gate. Make sure the Gate wave is uniform
preferably a fast rising square wave ON time equal to OFF time for best drive
efficiency. A driver helps but not mandatory. This amp will run (relatively)
cool at unbelievable efficiency 90%+ and take a lot of mis-loading abuse.
Look at Rog's GW3UEP website as well.
