Why do I get the impression from reading this that most of the subscribers repair their glasses with gaffer tape and have rows of pens in their top pockets

I can't remember it being "WileyWerld" but there was also a nomograph
for that conversion which required the use of C (Plancke's) in the
conversion formula when used on the first day of the fourth month - had
something to do with a bloke called Newton I think.
