That's quite well summed up ! and was one of the reasons for the 'Timed beacon software' , each end could run it and still see what was happening on the band.... dont have to be on the same frequency and would of given a plot over time ... Just need someone to code it :( G .. Beacon acty would be an indicator for you if propagation was optimum but unattended beacons would be pointless, if one was not in a position to go into QSO mode immediately given the right conditions.To respond immediately a link on 3.5/7 mhz would be useful to indicate copyat either end and the link needs to be monitored in real time for a quick response.
