Paul,

Receiver is at 38.915547, -77.124948

8 hours raw data ~ 11 GB if I calculated correctly.

OK to use raw data from SpecLab running in Windows? No need for EbNaut?

Which program do you want to use for remote login to my VLF computer?

Sometimes I am away from that location for a day or two; does it matter if I
just record continuously in order to not miss a transmission? (start a new file
every few days for example?)

73,

Jim AA5BW

You may be lucky but it'll be hard to beat Mike's E-field receiver, it is
probably the best in North America and is in a good location.
It is very similar to my new E-field rx, AD823 based.

 > -38.55 dB in 1Hz would seem to suggest 6 dB in 8 hours using EbNaut,

Correct, 6.05 dB in 34.7 uHz to be precise, and the 3 character
message is 7.57 dB in 32.6 uHz. Neither is significant in themselves,
but combined, we're looking at about 10dB which is starting to get interesting!

Cross-correlation of EbNaut BPSK with the known message is equivalent in
sensitivity to a carrier detection over the same duration.

Let me know the exact lat/long of your Arlington rx Jim. If you can record the
next transmission from Stefan I can run the cross-correlation here and we can
compare S/N and phase.

Here's Mike's (KE4RJQ) web page describing his set up

  http://www.unixnut.net/efield-current.html

Location is 37.35348N,79.19450W and the recording runs on Linux.
I'm able to log into Mike's VLF computer to extract raw signal.
