If these same stations were active on CW at the time  you would get an instant QSO/REPORT ie real time reporting on radio and not via Internet. What you were getting in some cases were SWL reports via Internet since there are not 16 licensed stations on 500 Khz.
You don't need WSPR to get a snapshot of band conditions, just listen on any amateur band CW/SSB  for a short time and you will soon find out the propagation paths to various parts of the world and engage in real time QSO'S
however,  if WSPR is the chosen mode by some enjoy it

Last night several stations were active in the UK and Europe on 500kHz WSPR.

Of the 10 unique reports of my 1mW ERP signal the best report was from EI0CF (602km). I attach my reports summary for those interested.

GM4SLV up in Shetland did better with reports from 16 different stations with his best DX report being 1317km with reports ranging from France, Holland, Eire and Iceland.

Many people rubbish WSPR, but this sort of activity gives an excellent "snapshot" of band conditions in a way hard to achieve in any other way.

Activity on 500kHz WSPR today ....

Stations active so far are GM4SLV (150mW ERP) and G3XBM (1mW ERP).

Anyone else care to give 500kHz WSPR a go? Please look 502.4kHz USB for WSPR signals between 503.8 and 504kHz.
