At the average radio amateurs QTH the EARTH is a
very variable factor, and no doubt some sort of earth system is desirable, but
some get paranoid about their earth wires, rods etc.
The important criteria is a good antenna system,
the best that can be erected given limations around the QTH, spread a few
insulated radials out around the base of antenna, and odd earth rod might help.
The efficiency and labour involved engineering
elaborate earth systems results in diminishing returns.
In reality going from 6 radials to 60 only results
in maybe 1 dB if you are lucky, especially at LF/MF
Get a 1/4 wave inv L or T antenna erected and
a couple of radials and notice the difference, ie lots of earth wires especially
buried and a poor antenna is not a substitute
