Dear All,

Had a go with the WOLF but no decodes though I can see what I guess is Jim
M's monster sig smack in the middle of the waterfall in a rather fetching
orange colour. I need to have a read up of the manual tomorrow and do the
calibrations etc and also fix the ant to try to heat the ground less.
(thanks to all the various kind folks who have forwarded lots of very useful
info to help me here).

For now I am back on WSPR 502.4

With best regards

Roger,

Unfortunately I don't think I can help, as I'm a total novice at WOLF,
so can't really come up with any quick fixes!

All I did was set the centre frequency to match the USB tuning offset -
tune low 1kHz to 502.5 and set centre frequency to 1000Hz.

I think pretty much everything else standard.

Looking at my version I see that under "Mode"... I have "Receive Only"
ticked, "WOLF 10[symbols/sec] " ---> "Normal Speed" ticked.

That's all I've done initially and it worked. Lawrence in China
suggested I try to calibrate my soundcard, so I followed his suggestion.

I know, as has been discussed before, that WSPR is often touchy about
soundcard sampling rates and string signals.

Don't know if WOLF is the same.

But at least can adjust for this in the software with WOLF though.

Tune to 197kHz in USB mode. THe Radio 4 carrier should be at 1kHz. If
you've chosen a 1kHz centre frequency, on the WOLF Config tab there's a
button marked "Cal" in the receive options area. Press it. It will work
out a correction factor for your soundcard. I think you're then asked to
accept the value offerred... do this and then start again. See if this
fixes things.

As Dave YMC rightly comments - this might be one to try and then forget,
although it seems (of setup correctly) to be quite sensitive.

Cheers,

John
