Ken,
I just had to congratulate you.
State of the art technology it may not be but it's tops for State of the art
Ingenuity.!
It works dosn't it and we're in this for amusement arn't we? Thats what
matters.
Well Done, I say.!

Subject: LF: Re: LF RadCom Articles
Hello All LFers
I just thought that I would add my two pennyworth to the debate regarding
RadCom 500kHz constructional articles. There must be many of us who design
and build our own equipment, but do not submit it for possible publication
because, state of the art technology it is not, the design is not
particularly elegant, and the Technical Editor and the more accomplished
contributors would fall over laughing when they saw it. But most of these
projects are practical and they work. I work on the KISS (Keep It Simple
Stupid) principle, don't use three components when one will work just as
well. My 500kHz TX does not have any fancy CW sidetone circuit on
transmit, just a piezo buzzer wired across the keyed 12v line to the
driver board, the most complicated bit is the LCL output stage, which
delivers 23W into a 50ohm dummy load and 900mA up the antenna, the TX/RX
switching is like the old days, a simple toggle switch.
On the subject of circuit symbols, for the Admiralty, resistors had to
have a set number of points on the zig zag, wires crossed using bridges,
and capacitors were called Jars.
I am now preparing to travel to China to view the Total Solar Eclipse on
the 1st of August, when I return I expect to find messages calling for me
to be burnt at the stake for such heresy.

Subject: Re: LF: satellites/RadCom
As Managing Editor of RadCom in the 1990s (and having worked in the
RadCom office as a freelance temp for several months recently) I can
confirm the comments by Rik and Alan that the content is very much
governed by what members send in. The Editor is always desperate for
good (preferably simple) construction articles, but very few are
submitted despite numerous requests. Efforts have been made to
include regular construction columns, such as the excellent new one
by Andy, G4JNT.
A specialist interest column is included only when an individual is
prepared to write it regularly. Thanks to Dave, G3YXM, LF is
represented. Perhaps someone from the satellite fraternity could make
a similar commitment.
There was a good response when I asked for 500kHz construction
projects for my book LF Today. There should be no shortage of
potential contributors to RadCom on this subject. You even get paid
for your troubles.
Solution. Don't grumble here (waste of time). Instead write to the
Editor with your views. Better still, offer to write a column or one-
off construction article.
Mike, G3XDV
