Watch them nulls! - I cant hear xdw on CW 3 miles away in the null of the array!...- Actually I can still detect Im there only because Eric XFX (who is stronger here Bartlesville town than me) produces a very notable 5Hz or so beat, but in the main lobe I could hear XDW's signal in the car 400 miles away over flat earth on the mag mounted L400 Eprobe.

I need to get my calculator out but at 3 miles the "no CW detectable signal" null is about 150 metres wide - very deep consider the physical offsets of the 2 parallel loops used here.

This weekend I was in Arkansas around 180 miles from East of XDW and definite "fast" fades, periods were seen of around 30 secs (presumably between the ground and sky waves) this was around 9pm CST - Ive not seen this before and probably another manifestation of the recovery phase after the storm? This distance seems too close?

Cheers

No Dave, Brian G3YKB is an ex PO Research buddy of mine, who decided to go
off to
more interesting things in ITV News.....he got me hooked on RTTY in the late
60s. He is on LF but from a very small garden with a loop and I think lurks
on the refelector. I saw a trace from him here that I think might have been
copiable except for a handfull of TV PSU lines and beats about the same
strength. I only realised it was him when Chris signed. Another successful
loop aerial.....but he is about 20dB down on Laurence's power !! I dont know
what the orientation is as I could never even detect Dave S on his loop. I
think Dave Ss loop was side on to me (N<>S plane) I think he is putting
about 90W into it with about 11A loop current.

Cheers de Alan G3NYK
