Hi Mal, I accept you definition, but democracy considers the "majority" of the eligible voters not the the just the activists, but it takes note of the concerns of the minorities and activists :-))

My major concern is that if the spammers decide to register as they do regularly on Yahoo Groups there wiill be no way of stopping the flow of spam and nasties to members, because there are no moderators. This could destroy Blacksheep. We have been lucky so far! hopefully it will continue that way.

Alan

Yahoo was not requested by the majority of Active LF operators at the time but by a few trying to impose their will on others that were content with blacksheep and still are I do not want my LF/MF information stored on yahoo or twitter or Facebook for ever. There is an abundance of information available about LF/MF from various other sources going back BC

No Mal we didn't "try" to close it, we would have succeeded only if everyone had
accepted the Yahoo Group requested by the majority but some refused so
following the concensus it was left running on the proviso that if it
crashed it could not be restarted because we have no access to the server.
The old software has proved robust :-)) and with the threat of Yahoo behind it Blacksheep has continued to operate. It has been live for 20 years now!!
That is from before many of the Groups and Lists even started, which is why
it is a simple text-based system.

We repeat we cannot do anything about its operation or maintenance, it will
remain there as long as the hardware and software keep running. Sadly for
new LFers all the wisdom of the years is lost, because Blacksheep has no
archive, one of the main reasons there was a movement towards Yahoo.

Blacksheep lives on I am pleased to say
Some tried to close it down a few years ago and failed

Hi all

I think we got it wrong with Yahoo which I thought was a good idea at the
time, may be Face Book is a mode too far as well..... this works.
