Hi Stefan - no chance over this way - condiitons over
the N Pole are more than poot/poor at the moment - As the sun went down
last night till dawn this morning Aurora were visible to the Zenith
even covered by a thin cloud bank.
I think I must be adding to Global warning as the Tx appears to be
heating the ground and little is getting thru this disturbance. I did
get a DFCW report from Jack down in BC Canada last night which I was
very grateful for (he was also seeing MP well) but nothing further.
Such are conditions up here at the moment.
Still Ive been working on the TS850 to give it a GPS referenced master
20MHz source from my 10MHz system and appears good (Ebay SMD kit from
the UK which I didnt screw up - even tho the components kept on
dissapearing - hiding in my morning toast crumbs!), and now the
new board now sits where the SO2 original TXCO would have been
installed - quite good really as it switches automatically to the
external source if available or back to the internal 20MHz if not - my
first go at SMD
Sorted out the defeat the Tx below 1.6MHz logic so it can actually
transmit on 500 and 137kHz directly :-) , and will finish the logic
switching circuit to automatically route the tx drive signal below 500k
to "IF" RCA socket on the back - all this courtesy of Bob ZL2CAs notes.
Ill need to add a buffer to get to the >5V logic level for the Decca
but have the board just about complete for that and that will sit in
the Decca.
So - not wasted time even though I do keep looking out of the window
and hoping the Aurora goes a way - it could be a week or more before we
recover on some paths....still it is still awe inspiring looking at all
them amps flowing about up there....
