Some of these beacons are also running a few hundred
watts. I am often on 500 working QSX and have worked all the DL stns so far
active. There are also others that have moved to 472 like OK2BVG, OM1II, OZ8FOC
in QSO cw mode and I have worked them as well.
The new band could well fizzle out when the novelty has
worn off like 500 in the beginning and more so 137 Khz
Beacon pollution has been the killer. Except we see more
CW QSO acty the future for the band is bleak.
For some reason the big players on 160 have not taken an
interest on 500 or 137.
What potential operators want to hear on MF/LF are QSO'S
taking place and not some unknown repeative Beacons churning out a callsign,
locator and QSO via Internet.
I can understand Weak signal experiments on EME and such
associated frequencies and distances but it is not necessary on MF.
I and others have worked worldwide on 160 metres without
it at moderate power levels.
I have also worked across the pond and the Russian stns on
500 with good solid reports on CW and QRS 3 over the years since the
permits were issued in the UK

Hi Mal
630m band is much much more active than 600m at the moment at least. All
DLs of course, there hasn't been a night over the last couple of weeks when I
have not heard a CW Call or QSO on or around 472.5. It may be like 600m
at the start then die out. The NDBs give a very good indication of band
conditions. Some of these stations are only 25Watts and I am hearing stuff 400
to a 1000 miles out every night, but getting the operating
conditions for most is difficult, too bad it's not published.

I hope the new 472 Khz band starting for all in
January is not going to be cluttered by DATA or other Beacons. There are
already more than sufficient NDB's on the band, in fact they are also a
nuisence.
Stick to your guns Joe with JT9 qso mode
