Thanks for the encouraging words Mal, although I've some sympathy with your comments.

This is one of the reasons I like QRP and simple equipment. Lurking in the back of my mind is something of the survivalist mentality and the thought that a tiny QRP CW transceiver kept in readiness for WW3 or terrorist emergency is not such a daft idea. 1W CW goes a long way on HF and can be powered by many emergency power sources.

I've just finished reading "The Railway Man" by Eric Lomax, a must-read book about his imprisonment and torture by the Japanese in WW2 and his later meeting and forgiving his torturer. It had me in floods of tears I was so moved. It was amazing what these guys did to be able to receive an allied signal from the depths of the jungle with next to nothing to hand.

As for GPS, well it's usually a toss up between the lady with the soft voice in the box on the dashboard and my XYL. My XYL is right about 75% of the time (eventually) with her navigation but she doesn't need charging and doesn't keep saying "recalculating", so I usually have her switched on.

When we get a real EMP that Zaps the solid state equipment those with the old valve/tube radios and able to TX/RX morse will be highly sought after.
Satellite communications can be Zapped/Jammed by amateurs never mind professionals  and likewise the Internet Hacked and rendered useless. Has someone forgot about the security aspect when designing the so called digital technology of today.
When you Radio Operators are all knocked out call me on CW on your 6V6/807 TX  and razor blade detector RX
Appliance Operators you are doomed !!
