I'll join the show my mini-whip discussion. The antenna is amazing as most everyone knows by now. I recall Mitch Powell, VE3OT, building one in the base of a 6V6 using the tube's plate for the antenna. I couldn't find the picture, maybe Mitch will chime in.

One of my Sons spends a fair amount of time on the highway driving a service truck. He reported greatly improved MF and HF reception with a mini-whip he built which is mounted just above the cab of his truck. His success inspired me to build one. Presently my mini-whip is about 10 meters above ground but close to a 33 meter tower and lots of pine and oak trees. It performs well but not as good as a big loop or receiving with my transmit antenna. I plan to either mount it out the top of the tower or push it up above the trees on a mast supported by a tree.
