Hello George,

So, welcome to the reflector!!
I can read out your motivation in the text! Be sure you can get all needed informations to get QRV on LF. I am sure there are many people who will be interested in a QSO with you :-)

Our distance is 1776km. This is no problem on 137kHz for me i think. But it also depends on your RX, of course. On <9 kHz it is a little more challenging ;-) but maybe it will be possible with the 300m vertical...

Starting with receiving makes sense, better on LF than on VLF, if you want to catch ham signals. I will need some weeks to reach that distance on the dreamers band ;-) There are many strong stations who will transmit a beacon signal for you if you want to check your RX antenna on LF. It is rather difficult to come on the band in summer since there is much more QRM and not so much activity but anyway. If your system is optimised until autumn, the next active period can come ;-) And there is activity in the summer as well.
There are almost infinity informations for you here...

I do not want to tell too much, but you can be sure i could tell many hours about this great hobby ;-)

Just keep us informed what you are planning. There are many very well experienced OMs here...

Best 73 and a good start on LF/VLF :-)

Hello Stefan

Thanks! It is true that SV land is not active on 136khz even that we got this band on 4/2006... First of all congratulations for your achievements on dreamers band!!! I got informed about your work on 9khz from G3XBM's blog that is my favourite blog (it is my source for inspiration, i check it every day and iam big fan of him - even that i never got in contact with him and dont know him in person)

I have a "kind" of interest in LF and i say "kind" because my only work on LF was an upconverter i constracted many years ago with an SA602 to receive SAQ on 10MHz... thats all.

I have restrictions in space on my main QTH in Athens something that makes my operation difficult on wavelegths 80m and below... BTW the work i see from you, G3XBM (on 500khz), M0BMU and others make me to cheer up and dream that maybe i can do at least "something" on VLF/LF. After the last post of G3XBM about your last activation on 9khz..I subscribded to the reflector to receive more info about what you did and what was the longest dx.

My locator is KM17UW and i think that our distance from your portable location must be something close to 1750kms

Until now Iam reading about E-field and H-field antennas and Iam planning to build one probe and one loop... from all the things I found I think for (9 khz) the most interesting H-field antenna is the loop with the 9khz bandpass of M0BMU and the E-field is the ADA, AN ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL ANTENNA FOR 5Hz - 500 Khz By I1RFQ where i've done already the calculations in order to build an e-field dipole for VLF only  freq. 3+ Khz.

So I plan and hope to construct soon these two antennas for 9KHz reception. After that my next step is to make a loop for 136KHz based on papers of M0BMU and try receive LF signals on 136khz. In greece we have a strong QRM source very close to LF band that  belongs to the Greek Navy (RTTY)...Iam sure all of you who are active on this band know what iam talking about...so this QRM makes difficult for me be active since it is not more than 100km far from  me...

So at first I will try to become an LF SWL..

About the 9KHz the greek laws leave open the activities below 9khz with the only point to not produce QRM to the services above 9khz... this gives me an oportunity to make some experiments on this frequency using narrowband techniques with low power and "ground antennas" on the transmitter side...like G3XBM

All these things are in my "wish" list.. and I must do actions instead of wishes. So I'll start to build RX antennas for 9KHz and i'll see what will come next

It would be nice to have a QSO with you but i think on these frequencies the only option would be cross band.. me on HF and you on LF

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: YES MY WISH IS TO START RECEIVING LF/VLF AND GET YOUR SIGNALS AND I WILL TRY TO MAKE IT REALITY

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

I will keep you informed on what iam doing

Hello George!

I was astonished as i saw your callsign there. You are the first station from greece that i saw here on the reflector! :-) I would be glad to do a QSO with you on 137kHz if you are QRV. Not because i am a "DX-hunter" but rather because greece does fascinate me (although i probably do not know very much of it).

What is your Locator and do you plan to receive on LF/VLF? :-)

vy 73 and all the best!

Stefan/DK7FC

PS: sri, cannot answer your question

hello

Does anyone who received DK7FC's signals was using e-field probe antennas like BBB-4????
