Higher the better but the added gain is a function of SQRT(height) so there's a practical limit.
Most gain in the first 20m.

Or any other battery rx for that matter if your binocs (and arms) are strong enough! The effect can be seen on MW b/c stations.Walter.
 
How high would you need/want to go?
An SPM-3 isn't too heavy.
