This morning VE7TIL was heard in Southern Oregon as well.

The 2200m station was running ~145W DC input with ~1.7A of antenna current into a 25' high by 50' long flattop loaded with ~5mH. The TX is a homebrew push-pull arrangement similar to the G0MRF design. The latest version of the SM6LKM exciter was used. The mode was QRSS30. I live in the city of Vancouver proper with a small urban lot with lots of power wires all around so things are less then optimal. The ground system here consists of a direct connect via a piece of #4AWG to the plumbling system entering my home.

The beacon will continue to run to qualify the TX design for the coming days. The power will be increased to ~300W either tonight or tomorrow.

See the 'TIL' status page for the latest news.

Quoting Steve McDonald <[email protected]>:

After the initial 2200m QSO with VE7TIL at 50km, I ran the QRSS beacon all
night (during auroral condx) and received my first DX report from Dale in
southern Oregon:

Noting the mileage between our respective locations, if I were
located in Southern England, the report would be the equivalent of being
heard in S. France, N. Italy, Switzerland, central Germany, Scotland,
Ireland, Denmark, Holland, Slovakia or Belgium! Wow!

Checking the distance between myself and the nearest other 'workable'
Canadian station (Mitch VE3OT) would be the equivalent of 'G' to E. Turkey,
Egypt, Iran, Syria or Lebanon...ouch! This will be a challenge with
backyard
antennas. I was able to read Larry VA3LK when he was beaconing for ZL and
that was a healthy KW+ with a big antenna. It looks like Mitch and I have
our work cut out for us. Better blow the dust off of that G0MRF amplifier
Mitch :-)
