Melting and burning the aluminium foil is certainly a problem - the copper
foil seems to withstand any amount of heating with the blowtorch, and the
same piece can be used several times.
There is a problem with this method, the heat required to burn off the
enamel makes the copper strands very brittle and some strands will drop off
so you will not be able to solder all the 729 strands together properly to
make a good joint. (Mc Ilroy and Wilson, 1935 litz handling procedures)
If you are happy with say 600 strands soldered continue but 2.5 mm multi
strand insulated could be a better choice and less effort. Try 10 mm multi
strand insulated if your mast or trees will stand the strain, at least you
know they are all soldered!!!!!
With Litz you must use a procedure that ensures all strands are bonded and
soldered together and the procedure that I described earlier ensures this
using the chemical desolve method.
