Thanks Peter I have been discussing lighning<>.propagation effects with Jim Bacon G3YLA a weather expert, also interested in SpE. I am sure I have your plot somewhere but I have had a few PC changes since the time. He once told me weather is in the stratosphere below 30km nowhere near the ionosphere. I think everyone agrees it is not as clearcut as that now. I am wondering is the decay rate might indicate the height of the effect. Is the stoke inducing charge at 50 to 60 km, of higher. Comparison with SID trace decays might also be interesting.

I was optimistic about the level of enhancement it looks like 5 to8dB, I think I must have been assuming the grid was 10dB not 5.
