Sounds interesting. I've managed about 50km with 250W and a 700m long wire. But that was in 3.8 mHz, which is fast mode for VLF. But it was one of the standard modes these days :-)
Before TXing EbNaut i would suggest to experiment just with a stable carrier and detect it in some distance. Generating an absolutely stable carrier is the first step and essential for all EbNaut experiments following.
The G4WGT VLF grabber may be helpful but i don't know the distances between you...
Nice to see some starting activity.
I have to repair (and improve) the preamp for my VLF remote grabber, thus the limited performance in the moment.

Chris should be able to hear any signal from you, already have electrodes in place about 50m apart and over 4m deep into the water table. Lot of noise on them with several volts from a local mw tx! Not tried anything further. NO TX yet at this end.

Assuming it's legal to transmit VLF using earth modes, and this seems
an grey area, is anyone using Ebnaut for this communication method? if
I tried to master the complexities of it, not being very
mathematically astute, would anyone be likely to hear or look for a
signal? I am in north Shropshire, in open countryside, with plenty of
space for well separated earth rods, and the means to drive them very
deep into a soild of loam top, about a meter deep, then into what is
normally very wet sand as the water table here is high for most of the
year. Thanks
