Thank you for the comments Rik, Alan, Stefan
The idea of external transformers seems better than digging inside this venerable instrument. And permits an easy two scale configuration
If a single transformer can do, will mean less looses. Right ?
Will open it and make some pictures to show you anyway
Stefan. Don't blame me if I call you .....Lord of Rings :-)))))
Hope it really help you to run more current on your wire. But beware of the power of the ring ;-)
Hi Rik,
A nice drawing, remindes me to the early times of the internet and before ;-)
As Alan suggested, what about a single core working as a current transformer?
BTW ferrite cores, i have got my package a few minutes ago 100x 3C85 cores for VLF. The show can go on! See

Hello Luis,
one way to change the range without opening meter is to use two 4/1 radio transformers:
- first transformer high side to the TX, and low side to one and of the meter
- second transformer low side to the other end of the meter and high side to the antenna
Drawback: the transformers will introduce some additional loss

Hi xyF
Yesterday I got a nice gift from a local friend, Pascual EA5JF :-)
Unfortunately the current range under 1A looks unusable
Still not opened to have a look. Seems to use a thermocouple. Is there any chance to make it
more sensible and usable for <1A currents ?
