Thanks Chris.  WSPRnet was very functional overnitght in North America.  I was able to gather my screen shots and statistics in about 10 minutes this morning compared to 4 hours yesterday.  So there has been some improvements but if the past is any indication, we will see a repeat of the problems in 2 to 4 weeks without significant intervention.  WSPRnet is a good system when it works and I hope its around for a long time to come.

There was more beta testing last night of the alternate system and the programmer made significant progress in fixing bugs.  The good news about WSPRnet working well again, at least in the short term, is that it buys the programmer of the alternate system some time to fix bugs and implement additional features, which we have all comes to enjoy on WSPRnet.  This also takes some of the pressure off as long as WSPRnet continues to work.  I am encouraged and very hopeful.

73 and thanks again

Hi John and thanks for the information. Several times lately I have given up on WSPR as I've been unable to log in to the site or my spots are not getting there. Only yesterday I gave up again and did some OPERA instead. The WSPR site is unfortunately necessary for the whole process to work and be useful. Delighted to hear your news about the new development and look forward to seeing it in operation.

Subject: LF: WSPRnet problems

Good morning,

As most ops already know, the WSPRnet website has been down more than up over the last several days.  There do not appear to be any updates to the status posted any where, at least nothing current.  Its almost as if a "take it or leave it " attitude is now the status quo.  Its a free, volunteer-driven web site that I pay nothing for, so I can't argue.

An alternate data warehousing and rendering system and website is being developed and tested by a father/son team but its not ready yet.  Details will be forthcoming once appropriate. as well as instructions on the new data entry point.

In the mean time, if you find spots in your WSPR console RX window that are noteworthy, please be sure to post them or send me a direct email with the details.  I use this information as part of my daily 630-meter band report.  As you can imagine, the WSPRnet outage has complicated the data gathering and reporting.

Thanks for your assistance.  73!

John KB5NJD / WG2XIQ..
