I agree, you can buy FT232 absed ready made modules for about 10-15 Euro.

Without a doubt, One from FTDI chip : www.ftdichip.com

Absolutely flawless, drivers easy to install.  Never had a single problem with their family.
I use the raw FT232 chips and ready made modules , and so far have probably connected something like 60 - 70 of them at various times (at least that is what the all-time USB finder reports)

Beware cheapskate Ebay purchases - there are several Chinese copies out there that are very bad indeed.
