Yes 70.260 was what we used in GI. Apart from home brew there were dozens of low band PYE Vanugards in use. Good fun in those days and nearly everyone was /Mobile

R Mal,

Transverter  option  , now  looks to  be  sorted , just  input the  off  set  frequency  and  CAT set's the  rig  , also  added  to ROS , now  all  need  is  a  qrg  for  ros on 70 MHz  then can  test  that .

AM from  GI , yes  I  remember  G3SX  , use to  tell  me ,  that  he  could  work  GI/EI  on AM  from  Wallasey on  4  mtrs , he  had a home made 4 mtrs  AM  Tx  with  2  x  6146 ......  rsgb   torpedo  special  was  it  called  ??  , had the  6146 on there side  , so  used to  fail  due to  heater  sag  ?  and  a  R220  as the  Rx  with  a  VFO ,  the  R220  was  one  of the  first  with a  xtal diode  mixer , worked very well , I used  one for  a  long time  , till I picked up a  convertor ..70.260  was the  liverpool  AM net  qrg in those  days

I get good  signal  from the  EI  beacon    70.130

No real RX on 4 metres or antenna suitable at present but I am sure we could make it if I was suitably equipped
I used 4m a lot years ago AM for mobile especially over in GI. The band was vy popular and used a lot there for mobile.
Old pye vanguard was common.
I have been neglecting other bands for a while and notice the decline of acty on 137 compared to years ago, and 500 has never really got going because of restrictions by other EU countries. It might pick up next year but the opportunity might have been missed.

All the action is on BS. Having found NIL acty on LF/MF I switched to HF and worked RI1ANF Antartic  CW  on 24 Mhz first call with only 100W did not even have to bother with the Amp. There is DX galore on the higher freqs at present.
LF/MF is getting vy repeative at present, the wheel is being re invented but not as good as the original, getting more OVAL
The other reflector is being ignored by the experimenter and enthusastic radio amateur and used mainly by those interested in Art galleries for abstract paintings
