Hi all

You must make sure the stick has an RTL2832 chip set!
HDSDR is a windows application. The BorIP app is in a windows version (and this also gives remote operation facility) and the DLL will also run under windows. I have it working on several PCs two on Vista and one on Win 7.

The set up is not perfect in that the software can loose track of the stick LO if too large frequency jumps are undertaken and restarts of the application are required. However normal use say within the 20 to 30meg range when used as a HF IF it is not an issue. I have not explored the full envelope but on 2m and 70cms I get the local repeaters OK its great for airband RX. I think may be for 1296 it may need a Gasfet front end (this works from my experience) or very good beam.

For first hand information Google or in my case Yahooooo Balit Seeber (he is a VK Op) an OZ. He has written all the software and up set the OZ establishment by logging all the radio emitters in OZ electronically something the their government can't do........ a bit of a wiz!! and very helpful

For info. This arrangement works well. The rate of processing data is low 8b/s which is inferior to say a softrock and sound card. But to have the HF spectrum as a continuous ribbon of tuning is a buzz. My HF converter seems to require no front end amplification in fact on 40m at night it can overload. An attenuator may be considered. The application does have a gain control and should be set carefully about mid range for starters. For LF an amp probably could be considered. The up converter is open to experiment to cover what ever is your interests.

This is a very cheap solution that works and is within any Radio Amateurs ability to make up even if just to cover VHF.
The cost is peanuts...... oh and the HDSDR has offsets in dial calibration for just this set up so by using known BC stns the dial can be set very accurately making the set up a useful instrument for tracking down harmonics and sprogs.

Ive  got  a  1970's  5 Guilder note  if that's  any  good ?

You  need to  look  out  for the  chip  number  that's  being  used  , its  used in various  brands  , check the  posted  lists  for  the  latest  info  , Pete  may  have the  info  you  need  ?

Not long. Heard the Lira was making a comeback in Italy. Your £5 stick costs 3,784,227 Lira also in some parts of Ireland they are using the Punt again in some shops.
I have found on holidays in EU they like the US$ and the British £ and give a good rate of exchange.
I might try one of the TV digi sticks, which is the best brand

Hi all
Save those precious Euros because you don’t know how long they will be around. Try HDSDR with Balint Seeber’s  BorIP app and ExtIO.USRP DLL using  ultra-cheap Software Defined Radio with RTL2832 (chip set) DVB-T USB stick.
These DVB-T USB Digital TV sticks are about £5 to £10 from UK source and cover about 50megs to 1.7gigs and with an up converter 60meg O/T osc the cheap way or expensive Monolithic IC local Oscillator 5v into an SLB-1 or similar block mixer; you too can have a USB (no sound card) SDR RX with DC to UHF coverage for peanuts all run off the USB supply just add antenna.
Oh and guess what the stick gets you all your local digital TV stations with record facility and all your local Digital radio and if that’s not enough all your local FM BC as well.  Not a lot of people know that!
URLs apply………
You won’t read about this in Radcom……. :0)

Hi Piotr,

Thanks for the overview of programs. That's what i searched for.
But maybe i have expressed wrongly what i need. I assumed a SDR software is also for a mono input, not only for IQ inputs. Are the programs you're referring on usable for both, IQ and mono?
Well, i'm waiting for one of my SL teachers (Wolf or Markus :-) ) answer. If there is a solution in SpecLab i would prefer that i think...
