Are you sure it is a sample rate alias? May be possible but where do
you know that they don't come back to real 18 kHz? The 8,97 kHz band
filter becomes more and more efficient on higher frequencies + the
soundcards low pass filter...

got approximately 70° / 250° azimuth. So Russian origin would be a

The "staircase" continues today (2010-06-29) starting ~0630 utc at 23kHz, reaching 30kHz around 0730utc.
