Hi Ron,
An E-Probe is quite small and does wonders under certain conditions...
It is also most portable, so that is a plus...
Back in the lowfer days I used one for best DX, especially when out of near
field E noises and more so when placed against a tall tree...
Here is some info:

Just keep the probe as far away as possible from the house mains neutral
which carries all manner of RF to the antenna where you will re-hear it...
Remote, battery operated with decoupled coax served best here... A gel-cell
will last for months...
Good Luck

Subject: LF: Getting started, maybe
I've been reading the occasional posting to the list, wondering if I
could
find some time and money to work with. As we do not yet have licences for
the 500KHz band, the best place to start would be setting up for
receiving.
From my location is it likely that I could receive any amateur stations
on
600 metres? Any recommendations for a relatively compact antenna? I do
have
a reasonably good receiver that covers the band, a Ten Tec SP-325 (crystal
oven oscillators).
