Thanks Andy,

Well the drive level is direct from multipsk , but with 2 applications running thats +6db up 3 .. may be +12 db over the norm .. might of been a bit much for the soundblaster awe64 (ISA version)

the local copy of the 2 modes has one looking stronger , but the R&S meter with in line head is showing the same for each and double for both .. so i think im linear

Yes, just about the same level of decoding, but MFSK certainly looks
weaker on teh spectrogrram.
Need to stop Rx and tunr off now, but will monitor this reflector

Interesting stuff - half-tempted to apply for teh 500kHz NoV.

Andy,

Are you looking at the same level of demodulation for olivia and mfsk ?

If so that's a useful outcome as I know some stations are in the process of
making tx transverters, but don't have linear power amps.. in which case,
mfsk may offer an advantage over 2 tone rtt ?

Tnx- G ..

I didn't say that. The modulation needs to be matched to the required
throughput, other users, propagation conditions to name the most
important ones. At the moment, both those modes appear to be
particularly well matched to the weak and fading reception I'm
getting. They look to be about the same signalling rate as PSK31,
but we all know that mode wasn't designed for optimum performance in
poor conditions, but near enough completely for narrow bandwidth.

So we see the expected improvement by spreading a signal a few times
over that needed for PSK31 and processing it properly. Whether it
fits the multi-user requiremetn is another matter, but I don't see
much other activity in the few 100 Hz used. Anyway, it looks as if
QRSS woud co-exist inside the tone spread.

Most of it is GIBBIRISH and not suited to 500 khz. Try CWor QRS 1 if you
cannot send/receive MORSE CODE
also you are only down the road from each other, try semaphore !!!!

Initially it looked as if Olivia was the more robust of the two, but a
bit uncertain now. MSFK-8 seems to be doing a better job.

Poor signal here in IO90, only occasional copy.
