Dear J.B, LF Group,

The maximum radiation/received signal is in the plane of the loop, so if the
plane of the loop is E/W, then maximum signal will also be E/W.
With a ferrite rod antenna, the "plane of the loop" is at right angles to
the axis of the rod itself, so maximum reception occurs when the rod is
broadside-on to the direction of signal arrival, slightly confusingly.

When mentioning that a loop is oriented E-W, does that refer
to the plane of the actual loop or to its resulting pattern?
