I'm using several K9AY loops here with a main -3 db lobe of about 145 degrees. Mainly in use for T/A on 137kHz is the antenna pointing at 310°, because with other antennas pointing more southerly the noise level is much higher, especially when there are T-storms over the Mediterranean.
So I believe your higher noise level is caused by the T-storms.
