Hi Alan
Well everything is going South in
more ways than one , 2 nights ago
I was decoding with 10 watts with
Halldor , to night , not a beep ,
pa3abk also only showing south .. not
ideal , but there are
monitors mid uk , south coast
and France , so if the Icelandic path
is blocked , the close in stations
should see something , Top Band is now
also showing in Iceland , A middle UK Top
band Rx station would complete the Opera
input to the event ..

Hi Graham this is going to be "interesting" to say
the least. The Dst has plunged to -225nT and looks in freefall
NOAA has just issued another Kp=8 alert. This really is filling up the ring
current, the effects may well last two or three weeks! BUT daytime levels may be
enhanced tomorrow maybe Friday too if there is any more activity. The
interesting thing is that these hot precipated electrons will not decay like the
normal daytime photo-dissociated variety. So whilst the status may not be what
we expected, there is a chance to see if we can detect a decay rate for the hot
electrons during the eclipse. It will be a much more complex situation, but it
may be necessary for some reasonably powerful stations to be active, because the
eclise may cause propagation to collapse rather than improve.
This becomes an even rarer event in terms of LF
propagation.!!

QSP .... Weather report from Iceland
A geomagnetic storm since early this morning is playing havoc up here
in the Aurora zone. Total blackout on lower bands, only occasional raspy
sig hrd on the higher. Let's just hope it passes in time for
Friday!
