Hi Pete,

thanks for the splendid idea - obviously I did´nt see the wood for the trees, all the more everything needed for this approach is already in use here! I´ve a switchable devider by 10 for MF and by 100 for LF with my marine radio exciter Hagenuk EX1001. Indeed this unit could bring out the frequencies directly but with a resolution of only 100 Hz. So I let it run at 13.6 MHz resp. 4.73 MHz. DFCW is possible too with suitable choosen F1B shifts in the base bands.
So all I have to do is changing the input of the devider from the EX1001 to the full range TXing Kenwood sets (attenuator added ;-))! WSPR and DFCW should be possible too in SSB mode with suitable AF modulation.
Thanks for the PA schematic too - it will be useful for future portable activities.

Hi Tom

Nice array of rigs I also own a TS50 plus a TS690s quite good on the RX side at M/LF the TS50 lacks the RX filtering of the other rig.

My suggestion is build an GW3UEP TX but drive it with reduced power (the odd milliWatt) via divider chain from one of the rigs. That way you get the frequency stability and VFO agility (not that it is really needed) plus side tone etc from the rig by using split working. You will have to recalibrate your mind to the actual TX frequency depending upon the division quotient i.e /2 , /4 , /n etc. On RX read out would be direct of course.. Otherwise use a DDS as the TX exciter. (I use xtals).

There are also similar simple TX designs for 136.

This suggestion does not give you linear operation and is not suitable for sound card modulation applications such as WSPR (just as well IMHO) it is only suitable for  On / Off  keying modes such as CW/ Very Slow CW QRSS/ Opera a form of CW/ NB direct shift RTTY/ Direct shift DFCW will work OK.

Before I am corrected WSPR is possible but only via some jiggery pokery using a four direct frequency shift pattern. Clever Johan SM6LKM has cracked it.

However some one on here may have done the modifications to the TS range but I have not heard about it myself.

Good luck

 Hello Group,

are there any experiences with extendig the TX range of
 these Kenwood
radios down to MF and LF? Long time ago I´ve already done
 the usual
extensions for general TX coverage within 1.7 to 30 MHz by
 cutting some
diodes but up to now I can´t find any modifications for
 MF/LF. With the
TS950SD it possibly could be restricted to the driver
 output. Any ideas?

 Thanks and 73,
