Stefan et al,

On TX the WSPR software will allow tones to at least 8.97kHz to be produced (just change TX tone frequency in the WSPR window) and I think considerably higher. I used this when G6ALB and I did some 8.97kHz VLF earth mode tests between us 3km apart, VERY successfully too - just 4W would have been solid.

On RX we had to mix down to allow the software to decode.

So far here on 500/477kHz I am seeing little difference between OP2 and WSPR.

QRT  , next to  look at the  reports  , I think  tonight  , minimum   decode  levels  are very  close ,  the  longer  OP modes are much lower , but the  qsb on 500 tends to  prevent  gain being  made by  extended  times

Opera   was  designed to  be  sent  by a  normal   CW  Tx   , psk/fsk    has a  dB  advantage , but  not  all  stations  can send   fsk or  psk, , especially  on  136  .. Without the  racal  ma1723 , it  would  be  difficult to  use fsk or  psk  on  500  , ( not that  psk  is  any  use on 500  .. too  much  phase  shifting )

Not  sure on the  wspr  settings , I dont  think the  software  can  produce   12 Khz  ,   stations  use  ,pic-dds  , that  may  be a  way  ahead ?

But tonight , using the  m-delt4    sound  card , I found the    mixer  monitor  could  be  used to  combine  2  channels  , so  the  audio  quality  was much better  than  in the  past, with  no  IMP  showing  ...

Hi Graham, LF/MF,

Nice setup to see which mode is "better". Rik/ON7YD has done some tests a few months ago i remember. Now you need many receiving stations who monitor these 2 modes to the same time as well.
Compared to WSPR i clearly find Opera an advantage regarding the ease of keying the PA without the need of FSK.
On LF i could run both modes since i have the IQ upconverter (can WSPR set to an output frequency of 12.5 kHz?? (to be mixed with 125 kHz)) but on MF i would need to extend my setup...

I really would like to join in tonite but i can't :-(((
