The  Opera  mode  ,  transmits  only  a  single  on/off   carrier  , the  same as  CW  or  QRS,   the  TX is a  serial  data  stream.

Tx  can  be  via the  windows  based software ., with  com-port  CW   drive , Audio  as in  say  psk31 etc   or  by  SDR

PIC  code  is  available to  enable   a  PIC based   keying  system  , the  PIC would  be  Beacon - only  , the  software  also  has the  QSO  mode , where  'any'  15 chrs   can be sent  at  each  tx

RX  , is  'only' possible  using  the  windows software  , and can  be   audio  from   soundcard , or by  SDR

The   RX , has   2   audio  bands  , one  for  each  mode  , each  200  Hz wide  ,  multi / simultaneous   decodes  are  possible  in each  mode , within the  200 Hz  pass  band

QSO    1200 / 1600  Hz
Becn    1600 / 1800  Hz

So  , for  VFO  control  of the  TX , then  the  carrier  must  be  placed  to  fall  inside the  required pass  band  , as the system  uses  'usb''dial'  as the  definition  of the  'qrg'   then   for  beacon   mode  ,   1601 to 1799  Hz would need  to  be added (better not at the band edges for tolerance may  drop signal  out the  pass band) , normally    say  1700 Hz would  place  you in the  centre of the  pass  band

If the  Audio  drive  from the  software  is  used , then the  carrier  frequency  will  be  placed  inside the  relative pass  band  , by  checking  for the  best s/n  'spot'  , this  is completed by the  Rx routine , prior to  Tx and takes a  snap-shot , main function  to reduce collisions and  avoid carriers etc

So .......... If  used   by  VFO , then  the  system  is  sopt frequency  , 2.5 Hz  b/w .

............If  the  carrier  placement  / audio  tx drive  is  used, then  the  maximum allocated    B/W needed   is   200 Hz  for  each  mode  , with   maximum   Tx  qrg  of   + 1800  Hz  from  the  dial-set - usb

What are the actual frequencies that are then occupied by OPERA? As long as it is guaranteed that it's all below 2000 Hz above the dial frequency, 477 sounds like a good plan as a start.

Up to now , 477 is the  only  frequency   on offer ?

I'd go with that Albert.

G,

Just to start the discussion, my proposal is dial 477 kHz.
