Problem solved
Tnx , Ron, that gave me a idea, did
a couple of web searches for the 'missing'
file and one link mentioned the
original MS clean up tool , by file
name , quick C drive search and there it was
(motto , never delete anything , just get a bigger drive
hi) , I had a copy of the now defunked
'Windows install clean up' the
original MS tool , removed -ALL- references
to JAVA , check the add/remove , all clear, ran
the on-line update .. strait in.. phew ....

Graham,
I didn't see an answer to this on the list. You
can give Revo uninstaller a try,
it's a freebie and does a very good job of
removing stubborn software including
the free version on cnet downloads and avoid the
adverts on the main page.

Subject: LF: win-xp JAVA upgrade jammed
up -help !-
The JAVA upgrade is totally jammed up
. will not install the latest Version
.cannot de-install any of the older versions
using the windows-add/remove.
gives ::error applying transforms , verify the specified
transform paths are valid
The java upgrade has the same problem with
valid paths.......
Big problem, Java (old) is working , but now
out of date , some apps will not use it
.....ie the web-sdr's
But , non of the remove 'systems' will
take out the old versions or install the
new , all have reference to paths
not being valid etc
Q any ideas how to manually
remove Java from windows xp-pro sp3 ? (
most links expect the windows remove function
to work)
Tnx -G.
