R Alan,
Well , same this side, until the last
couple of updates , then came the error
messages, but looking on the web for the
'apparent' missing file, the problem is not unique.
most posts base round the same
broken net-work path..
After running the MS tool and re-loading
, IE8 , FFox and Chrome now all
running as normal with xp-pro -sp3 +
all updates.
Java updates , direct from the sun-java site
.. cause ?

Hi Graham, I am surprised at your problems I am running
Jave 6 on W2000 Pro, XP and two Linux machines. In fact Java 7 is around
now. Firefox uses it and I have been running that for several years. I
wonder where you were downloading it from?

Thanks Ron,
Will give it a try , sods law , the
problem is on the main PC ........mine ...... all
the other pc's round the place are fine
I have tried the 'dedicated' Java
removal tool's that are supposed to remove it ,
but these dont seem to work ,
the errors all seem to point to wrong
path's etc , oddly looking in the
settings /doc's / app etc java directory ,
the file that is being called is not
there .. running search also fails
to find it .. ....
looking on the web , it seems Im not the
only one with problems linked to this file
\Java\jre1.6.0_20\
Tnx - G ..

Graham,
I didn't see an answer to this on the
list. You can give Revo uninstaller a try,
it's a freebie and does a very good job
of removing stubborn software including
the free version on cnet downloads and
avoid the adverts on the main page.

jammed up -help !-
The JAVA upgrade is totally jammed
up . will not install the latest
Version .cannot de-install any of the
older versions using the
windows-add/remove.
gives ::error applying transforms , verify the specified
transform paths are valid
The java upgrade has the same problem
with valid paths.......
Big problem, Java (old) is working , but
now out of date , some apps will not
use it .....ie the web-sdr's
But , non of the remove 'systems'
will take out the old versions or
install the new , all have reference
to paths not being valid etc
Q any ideas how to manually
remove Java from windows xp-pro
sp3 ? ( most links expect the windows remove
function to work)
Tnx -G.
