Hi Roelof the transpolar route is certainly odd and there are more effects
there. They get the precipitation first and then it diffuses south. It can
be two days after an event before lower latitude paths are affected and
similarly they recover later. The time the trans-polar paths get hit is when
there is a proton event.
You can never know all about this, but it is nice to know a little and
realise how much you dont know :-))
