A dry joint may not cause the QRP op so much smoke, but it will surely negate the expected gain in Q? If anyone wants a solder pot, I have one that I've been meaning to eBay it so let me offer it here. PM me if anyone is interested Yes, that laminated fabric was a nice engineering material, you don't see it so often now, I suppose polycarbonte sheet is the material of choice now

I think the PO/BT technique was a solder pot ...but we are not running 1MW
:-)) In passing I did manage to liberate one of the SRBF formered toroids
used on the power sensors, the hole for the Litz was about 2 inches
diameter.....I also managed a photo of one in situ in the feed to the
variometer in the "loft". Some "SWR meter" !!
