Hi Halldor & group
Interesting! I can see the stationary blip on the WWLLN plot over
Iceland, I guess that's your volcano. I have the VLF loop aimed north
and will be leaving it that way for awhile. I can see TFK very weakly
all day long now... For some reason that bearing produces the most
interesting natural radio phenomenon and is quieter than all the rest.
The levels on my VLF grabber have changed significantly as I changed the
opamp in the preamp from an NE5534 to at LT1028. The LT1028 has a much
lower noise characteristic and seems to produce more gain in my preamp
design as I needed to throttle back the soundcard gain a fair amount to
avoid overloading it...
BTW - for Canadian types looking for a cheap solar panel. Canadian
Tire has the 1.8W battery maintainers on sale for $10. I bought a
couple more as my original one works very well even on cloudy days to
keep the preamp battery charged (12V 2.7AH). Even with some kind of
pulse circuit in it it doesn't create QRM on VLF or LF. Strange but true.

Hi all,
Looks like that the new eruption in Iceland is showing up on my
VLF-grabber. Static activity started as soon as the eruption got
through the ice around 19:15 and ash began to fall. Lightnings are
always in the ash cloud. Activity is building up. More ash means more
lightnings. It will be interesting to follow this activity next days.
